Kendal’s nationally acclaimed Brewery Arts Centre features live drama, music, film, dance and a whole lot more while a good range of eating paces can be found in the centre of town.

The Abbot Hall Gallery on the banks of the River Kent in the town is well worth a visit while Blackwell, a few miles away, is a unique country house designed in arts and crafts style.

The Lakes and literature go hand in hand – Wordworth lived a little further north at Dove Cottage - Grasmere and Rydal Mount - Rydal; the eminent Victorian writer, John Ruskin lived at Brantwood overlooking the lake at Coniston and Beatrix Potter’s home can be found in picturesque Sawrey, not far from Coniston. All these houses are open to the public.
